About Paul D. Nolting, Ph.D.

Over the past 20 years, Learning Specialist Dr. Paul Nolting has helped thousands of students improve their math learning and obtain better grades. Dr. Nolting is a national expert in assessing math learning problems - from study skills to learning disabilities - and developing effective learning strategies and testing accommodations.

Dr. Nolting is also a nationally recognized consultant and trainer of math study skills and of learning and testing accommodations for students with learning disabilities. He has conducted national training grant workshops on math learning for the Association on Higher Education and Disabilities and conducted two PBS workshops on math study skills and learning styles.

Dr. Nolting has conducted numerous national conference workshops on math learning for the National Developmental Education Association, the National Council of Educational Opportunity Association and the American Mathematical Association of Two-Year Colleges. He is a consultant for the American College Test (ACT) and the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board. He is also a consultant for Houghton Mifflin Faculty Development Programs conducting workshops on math study skills for math faculty. His text, "Winning at Math: Your Guide To Learning Mathematics Through Successful Study Skills," is used throughout the United States, Canada and the world as the definitive text for math study skills.

Dr. Nolting has consulted with numerous universities and colleges. Some of the universities with which Dr. Nolting has consulted include the University of Massachusetts, the University of Colorado-Bolder, Texas Tech. University, Black Hills State University, Tennessee Tech. University, Clemson University, and the University of Connecticut.

Some of the colleges with which he has consulted are San Antonio College, St. Louis Community College, J. Sargeant Reynolds College, Montgomery College, Broward Community College, Miami-Dade Community College, Northeast State Technical Community College, Landmark College, Denver Community College, Valencia Community College and Pensacola Junior College. Dr. Nolting has consulted with over 75 colleges, universities and high schools over the last 20 years.

Dr. Nolting holds a Ph.D. degree in Education in Curriculum Instruction from the University of South Florida. His Ph.D. dissertation was "The Effects of Counseling and Study Skills Training on Mathematics Academic Achievement." He is an adjunct instructor for the University of South Florida and Florida Gulf Coast University, teaching Assessment and Appraisal courses at the graduate level.

His book, Winning at Math: Your Guide to Learning Mathematics Through Successful Study Skills was selected Book of the Year by the National Association of Independent Publishers. "The strength of the book is the way the writer leads a reluctant student through a course from choosing a teacher to preparing for the final examination," says Mathematics Teacher, a publication of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics.

His two audio cassettes, How to Reduce Test Anxiety and How to Ace Tests were also winners of awards in the National Association of Independent Publishers' competition. "Dr. Nolting," says PubIisher's Report, "is an innovative and outstanding educator and learning specialist."

A key speaker at numerous regional and national education conferences and conventions, Dr. Nolting has been widely acclaimed for his ability to communicate with faculty and students on the subject of improving math learning.
