This is what Instructors say:

I am a dean at a community college in Winnipeg Canada. I was recently at a workshop that mentioned the “Winning at Math” book and the impact that it has had on retaining students who have weak math skills. Given the success of the book can you send me a copy?

I have received your book (Winning at Math) – thank you very much. …. I did, however, apply some of the review strategies that you spoke of before the test I gave today in College Algebra and the grades were the best of the semester.

I really enjoyed the OCC workshop with you and your wife Kim, and I’m happy to have the latest edition of your book (Winning at Math). You seminar reinvigorated e toward my ultimate career goal, being a more effective math instructor. Already I’m rewriting my notes and changing my ideas about lecturing to help reach a wider audience, with different learning styles.

Paul, thanks so much for sending a copy of the WAM5th edition. I think you made some great improvements! I appreciate the inclusion of the CD in the back and many of the new topics or more-developed topics make the book feel more student-friendly and very practical.

The Tutor Training Workshop was very informative. It re-energized some of the tutors at the same time gave all the tutors different strategies to work with students who have poor study habits. He gave the tutors some tools that they could use to help students become independent learners while tutoring them.

I would like to thank Dr. Paul Nolting for his presentation to my Math Learning Center staff. His knowledge of the developmental students' needs and deficiencies came across clearly, as he provided the tutors with several ways to approach the students depending on their learning style. He taught us that it is not only important to teach the students the material but to teach them how to study mathematics so that they may work on their own. I hope to implement his ideas in our learning center as well as my classroom.
